We all have seen them--those cars that are sitting, 'under the weather'--collecting plenty of wear and tear on their exteriors because they have not been properly cared for during the winter months. Next spring, it may then be a long road to cleaning/ restoring aspects of those vehicles--the ones that have been abused by the weather.
If you have one of those, let's consider how can you better keep track of your vehicle's survival in snow fall and ice formation? Why not put it on a schedule--a schedule of regular check up and cleaning? Some cars just do not get used very much during the winter months, and build up occurs quickly. A protective coat of wax can make a lot of difference to your vehicle assets in these weather conditions. Read more about waxing in a recent post on our Facebook page.
Why not control the effects that will occur to your once -clean-now -dirty components. While driving it and routinely checking it can prevent things from from getting out of hand during the winter months, it may be that the real threat is your secondary vehicle; it may not be driven for a week! Making sure it has a proper place to be stored and covered is certainly a way to avoid extra trouble. If it sits through a snowstorm, make sure the snow gets dusted off and that it has not been collecting road salt or other contaminants. Use quality cleaners that will not freeze easily, if you are cleaning during the cooler weather.
Once the vehicle is free of all of the snow and ice that builds up, it won't be as hard to maintain it as a clean vehicle, as long as you don’t neglect the small things. This attention to maintenance is essential if you are looking to long term use of that vehicle. Are some of your parts defective after the car has been sitting for a long time during the winter? And, as to exterior maintenance, if you have not been able to clean it because of the cooler weather conditions, it may be difficult to get it back to the original shine before the end of summer.
