As the Gallatin Valley continues to grow, S.A.M. plans on growing right along with it. The goal is to continue creating jobs that give workers a sense of purpose and accomplishment while simultaneously providing a quality and enjoyable service to the community.
Amidst the financial trouble, his bank had contacted his father, to whom he had become estranged during his years in the band. His father followed up with him, and when he found out the gravity of Sam’s circumstance, offered to help him get back on his feet. Blown away by his father’s grace and mercy, and filled with respect for his new boss, Sam made a decision. He decided to exchange his past and trouble for a new life of hope and diligence.
After a year, Sam became the manager of that detail shop. Enjoying a good period of prosperity, Sam and the owner gained much respect for one another. However, it was not to last. Waves of an unstable economy and help shortage issues forced the owner to resort to a smaller operation, eventually selling it to Sam. S.A.M. Shines Autos Meticulously was born in the dark cave of a potato cellar he rented for a shop. Eventually moving to Jackrabbit in Belgrade, S.A.M. outgrew the small space and relocated to it’s current location in Four Corners.

Earn a good name and profit fairly and honestly - I think we have built a really good name for ourselves, as far as the large majority of our customers our concerned we are the place to go for a detail and the higher price is worth it. We have experienced exponential growth, five years ago there were long periods of time when it was just me and all we did were Danhof cars, now there are 5-7 of us there every day and we could do that even if we didn't have the Danhof account, everybody involved has believed in this business. People use to tell me I should find another job when I would sit at home for a few days without work, I even applied for other jobs that I ended up turning down. I really believed in this business, I wasn't interested in a job, I needed a place where I could build a reputation for myself and help grow a business from its near beginnings. I think we are eons away from where we were 5 years ago, and I think Shines Autos Meticulously is still in its near beginnings. Things are off balance and we need to make improvements, but this is the largest crew and amount of work we have ever had, of course its going to take a while to get our bearings, but we succeed, and thus far I am proud of what I've been a part of. We have worked hard at this, we admit our mistakes and we are more than fair to our costumers, people realize that, so people trust us."
Putting the needs of others ahead of our own - We need to put the needs of our customers ahead of ours, even if we have to stay late, work a little faster, scrub a little harder. This means supporting each other and helping each other become the best we can be at what we do.
Relentlessly pursuing our duty - We can’t give up, we can’t let one bad day get us down on the next one. We all need to come to work everyday ready to complete a sufficient amount of quality work. We need to keep the goal in sight, always keep in mind why we are there, and find it within ourselves to give it everything we have very single day.
Seek perfection on every detail in the least amount of time possible - Doing the job right the first time and in a timely fashion is key. Its necessary for everyone to understand the what the end product should be, and the proper way to get it there quickly, missing even a lot of small things can make a hour or more difference in the checkout time. I think this is where we struggle most, or at least on the time side. If we can fix this it will help us serve more customers and build our reputation as a professional and reliable business.

Adding value to our customers, our city, our neighborhood, our business, and ourselves - Really what we do adds value to everything. We aren't a business that sells people junk, I am proud of that. We add money value to the cars we detail, we add value to our customers because they feel good about what they are driving in again. We are a local business so we help the local economy, plus the better looking the cars are in town the cleaner the city looks, I noticed when I went to Houston for the first time that everybody drove a nice looking car, if I noticed that at 12 years old I'm sure anybody would. Our neighborhood benefits from us, we bring in customers that have never been to the area, we contribute adding to their customer pool as well. We add value to our business with every detail we do. Every detail could turn one customer into multiple. As we grow as a business we will be able to offer more to our costumers. As far adding value to ourselves, for me I can go home feeling accomplished, like I did something that mattered that day, that I made somebody happy, that I honored God with my work, and also that I've earned my paycheck.

Eighteen years ago there was 19 year old aspiring rocker who’s life was falling apart. He had invested all of his time and money into a rock band only to have it torn apart by immature egos, alcohol, and drug use. That young man’s name was Sam Haugestuen. Desperate to pay his rent, he took the only work he could find, scrubbing carpets at a local detail shop for six dollars an hour.
